French television producers Ego Productions, in cooperation with TF1, have produced a French version of the series starring Thierry Lhermitte as Dr Martin Le Foll, with the series based in the fictional Breton town of Port-Garrec. TF1’s Doc Martin stars the celebrated and hugely popular actor Thierry Lhermitte as Martin Le Fol. The screenplay by Eric and Kristy Stephane Kazandjian is based on ITV’s number 1 rating primetime family drama by the same name, which is produced by Buffalo Pictures.  The French scripted–format production of ITV1 drama “Doc Martin” launched on TF1 on Monday 10 January 2011 at 8.45pm with a two–hour premiere, achieving a 33% share audience with almost 9 million viewers. 
'Port Garrec – Its ships, its harbor, the seagulls, its joyful village life… This rural town could be a haven for Doc Martin and its inhabitants, if only things would go smoothly. The village is turned upside down by a visit from a beautiful incognito tourist inspector, who sets her sights on Doc straight away, a mysterious figure starts exploiting the villagers shameful secrets and on Julie and Martin’s wedding day, Port-Garrec is visitor by a beautiful blonde woman who introduces herself as Madame Le Foll – wife of Doc Martin!
