Few artists come close to the superstardom of George Michael. Achieving seven number one songs on the UK Singles Chart and eight number one songs on the US Billboard Hot 100.

George Michael first found fame as part of iconic and internationally popular duo Wham! They took the late eighties and early nineties by storm, achieving hit after hit with their singles such as “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” and “Last Christmas”.
Michael’s solo career began whilst he was still part of Wham! With breakaway single “Careless Whisper” which reached number one in more than twenty countries. As he became a solo artist he didn’t hold back and his fame just kept growing.
Throughout his career George Michael was a campaigner and activist for LGBT rights and the AIDS/HIV epidemic of the time and had heavy involvement in fund-raising.
Despite this, his fame came at a price. His personal life became a target for the press and mounting pressure would lead George into a turbulent battle for his own reputation with his legal battles and personal troubles making the headlines during the late 90s and 2000s.
George Michael passed away on 25 December 2016 aged 53.
