The Eternal War investigates areas of conflict where war seems to never end. To better understand, experts and witnesses who have lived the conflicts up close offer a unique insight into the seemingly unresolved conflict in their country.
Together with authoritative witnesses and experts: government officials, high-ranking soldiers, clan leaders and civilians take stock of why the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia fail to find an end and continue to reap human lives and the very survival of the village. No matter how different the three conflicts are, one observation crosses them like a hot red line: foreign interventions, often without any knowledge of and respect for local society, have done more harm than good.
Each episode starts from an iconic moment engraved in the collective: 11 September 2001 for Afghanistan. March 2003: the fall of the statue of Saddam Hussein in Baghdad. October 1993: the American landing on the beach of Mogadishu in Somalia.
