This documentary film tells how, for six glorious years during the 1980s, the Tour de France hosted a women's race alongside the men's, shattering society's expectations, battling discrimination, injuries and financial hardship, with only inner strength and a bond of sisterhood.
The press said that:
“someone would have died". “Damned women who interfere!”
"Put a lot of aggressive alpha females together and there's going to be trouble..."
These women competed on the same cobbles, conquered the same mountains and were cheered by the same adoring crowds as the men.
Their ride should have heralded a bold new era of equality in sport, but instead the women's Tour was canceled and their heroics were all but forgotten for three decades. But women never stopped fighting.
With the Tour de France Femmes returning in 2022, what lessons can be learned from these women who dared to fly?
The program celebrates the successes of these women and inspires future women to race the Tour de France.
