Chile is in the throes of a crisis.
The government of socialist president Salvador Allende is collapsing. The president and opposition politicians accuse each other of violating the constitution. The Chilean commander-in-chief resigns, believing he has lost the trust of the army. It is a blow to Allende: the general was a strong supporter. But the president quickly replaces him with another man Allende believes he can trust.
His name is AUGUSTO PINOCHET. But on September 11, 1973, the Chilean army under his command launches a coup. Pinochet now rules the country like a dictator. But he could not have taken power without the tacit support of the West, especially the United States of America.
This documentary will reveal the shocking depth of that support, using rarely seen archival footage, expert analysis, eyewitness accounts and recently declassified government files to tell the story of the Pinochet uprising, the brutal regime he led and the Western allies who made it all possible.
