Brain-machine communication will allow us to create a different type of intelligence. The distinction between the biological world, the physical world, and the digital world, will just blur, and we will integrate seamlessly across all of these dimensions. The cognitive capabilities of the human being will enhance, giving rise to the first augmented humans. Connecting brains is gonna be done, and we'll have powerful synthetic telepathy technologies. It will be possible not only to read other person's thoughts, but also manipulate them.
It’s critical to have ethical guidelines for the development of all these technologies. It’s the time to propose to add to the human universal declaration of human rights the “neurorights”, to protect our mental privacy - our thoughts and even our subconscious thoughts-, our sense of identity and even our sense of agency, our free will. Neurothecnologies are about to cause a radical social shift that will change the concepts of the inner self and the very reality. It'll be like a new renaissance, and a way for human species to have a long term future. But it can also be a way to cause a huge damage. It depends on us.
