It was 1946. The war had just ended with the defeat of the Axis and the unconditional surrender of Japan but the echo of the bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki still reverberated in every corner of the Earth.
It was from the blood of those tens of thousands of victims that Oppenheimer, as chief scientist of the Manhattan Project, thought his hands were stained.
Hands who, under the control of the military, had directed, at the infamous Los Alamos laboratories, a scientific group made up of the best minds of the period to build the best instrument of mass destruction ever created.
From that experience, exhilarating for some, terrifying for others, a different Oppenheimer was born, scarred and ready to sacrifice his political career to stop the H-bomb madness.
But an ambiguous scientist would also emerge; even dangerous for the United States of the most unbridled McCarthyism, by virtue of a pro-communist past that would have led him to be accused of espionage and anti-American activities.
